Heat Seek

Science and technology Kickstarter picks #3

August 29, 2014 by Emily McLaren Leave a Comment

It’s that time again! This time I think I’ve chosen a great bunch that are well worth sponsoring or at the very least, worth keeping an eye on.

Heat Seek NYC

Heat Seek is an incredible project that has fortunately reached it’s target but is still worth discussing.

I didn’t know this but in New York, the temperature in Winter can go as 27 degrees below freezing. also in New York, every Winter there are 200,000 complaints about heating. Tenants are told to manually record the temperature in their homes and it may take weeks or months but eventually, an inspector will come out. Until then, families suffer.

The team behind Heat Seek want to change this. They have built a thermometer that connects to the internet. This thermometer automatically takes hourly readings and sends the data on to a server so tenants and authorities can learn how cold buildings are. These readings are then automated into the heat logs that are usually filled out by tenants but, due to fantastic technology, they’re incredibly accurate.

The Heat Seek team are looking to build 1,000 Heat Seek sensors and distribute them to buildings across New York City. For this, they asked for $10,000 and at the time of writing, they have just passed that target at $10,097.

Iniduoh

One day when he was driving down the motorway, Stephen Noble noticed a familiar face sitting next to him. It was his two year old daughter who had climbed out of her car seat and found her way to the front seat. She did this by pressing the red button found on most child seat restraint systems. As a means to tackling his daughter and other under-3 escapologists, he created Iniduoh (Houdini spelt backwards).

Iniduoh covers the red button with a cute little contraption that straps on in the opposite direction to the car seat’s straps and has a colourful character as the cover. Child friendly, ultra safe and provides peace of mind to parents!

The project needs £50,000 to get full funding and 2 days in, at the time of writing, it is at £45.

DrinkMate

I don’t really need to sell this to you. It’s a smart phone breathalyser. It simply plugs into Android phones and then once blown into, displays your Blood Alcohol Content on the app’s screen. It is powered by phones so it comes with no battery and it is smaller than an AA battery.

DrinkMate needs $40,000 to be funded and with 26 days to go, currently sits at £20,125

Will you be backing any of these projects?
